Halloween
Scream movie
This movie was a very different movie compared to all the other movies I've ever watched, it tried to scare and at the same time make the audience laugh. The trilling scenes really was unsuspected and also made me jump at times, there was nothing fictional about it beside from the storyline. It had my little cousin looking into her wardrobe afterwards, the diegetic sound of the phone ringing builds up tension with the camera having a shot reverse shot which turns into a pan shot of the phone to Sidney Prescott face, which increases the tempo of the scene and creates tension, which then allow the soundtrack to take control of the scene and create a more scary scene. A few murders were set at night which is more scary than day. The darkness of night conceals the identity of the murderer. The blond girl which is known as "dumb blond" gives the audience stereotypical point of view of the situation. The camera angles used in this film really link up with the scene itself, a good example of this is when the girl tries to run away from the murderer and we see a pan shot of the action going on in the scene, which then moves to a facial expression of Sidney with the tension based non-diegetic soundtrack adding to the atmosphere. Another interesting scene is the narrative used a good example of this is when Sidney is talking to the prank caller on the phone aka the murderer, lines like "have you got a boyfriend" is a sign of flirting and when Sidney replies "no" its shows us the audience that she is getting into the convocation as well as we know she is lying yo the person on the phone.
Psycho 1960
I thought Psycho was a very successful thriller movie, some of the techniques used was the positioning of the camera, point of view shots were used a lot in this movie to try and capture the scene in the point of view of actor playing the stalker. This gives the viewer a unique view of the victim. my favorite scene was the shower scene where the main character is murdered by the killer, with the non-diegetic sound adding to the tension. when the killer appears we hear a shrieking violin noise, the non- diegetic sound along side the the point of view shots of the killer or other actor which allows us to see in the eye of the innocent or the killer. The reason why this movie is black and white is because they did not have the technology to make a coloured film, but i think this added to the effectiveness of the film with the dark representing evil and the white representing the innocent, in this case Lila Crane being the innocent main character and Norman Bates being the "Psycho". The unsuspected attacked course people to jump as it performs the genre its trying to create, which is a thriller. This film was so successful it led to another version being made in the year 2000, which unfortunately was not as successful as the on in 1960.
